Public Service Announcement

Parts are getting/have been end-of-lifed at the dealer (EOL), and 850s are (alarmingly) hard to find in pick n pulls.

If I had land and a flatbed, I'd be pulling them onto my property like a comic book super villain and his super magnet.

It is, after all, the greatest passenger car ever manufactured.

I see four stages to any car model:

1) New, available at the dealer
2) Used, widely available but no longer made, inexpensive to buy and maintain
3) Rare, running examples fetch decent money -- "More than they're worth" :roll:, parts EOL and hard to find
4) Rare & Classic, good examples fetch good money, great examples fetch fantastic money, they all turn heads on the street

The Volvo 850 is now in the 3rd stage.

The sad thing about this is that alot of parts, especially wear and tear items, are still and will be available for quite a while, but with questionable quality.
Fortunatwly I was able to aquire most sensors for my 96R by now, and I just need to order a new MAF. Then it should hopefully be ready for the next 25 years...

I've often thought about what I would do if I couldnt source certain parts such as ECUs or sensors and so forth. I figure worst case scenario I could convert to use a haltech or megasquirt. Adapt some kind of aftermarket sensors. It is after all a lifetime project car. Improvise, adapt, overcome.

At some point the 850 guys will need to do like the 240 guys have already started for the Tupperware parts ... 3D printing.
For control modules ... single board computers. If somebody take the time to reverse engineer them .

If that takes off, maybe Matthew might consider adding a MVS repository for Volvo 3D print files and DIY control modules source code.
