The factory stereo on my 2006 V70 does not like home-burned CDs. The lights no longer come on at night. The car takes us on a lot of road trips. It needs something better.
The plan is something that can connect to SiriusXM and will read files from a USB or a SD card and might also have ApplePlay so I can see the driving directions.
If I do get something double-DIN with a screen, I am considering getting some sort of backup camera while I am at it.
Now here is the question. I know that there are units out there that can use the steering wheel controls, and I assume that that stuff comes through CANbus. Does that mean that the unit ought to also know when the TCU shows the car in reverse and will switch to the backup camera? Is there a method to wire the power to the backup camera to the reverse light wiring and have it show? Either way, or some other, it would be nice if the backup camera "just worked".
Does anyone have suggestions?

I just did this with the Crux adaptor and a double-DIN unit in an XC70. Camera mounted over rear license plate (there are specially-designed cameras to mount using license plate frame).
With the Crux unit, it was all pretty easy—with steering wheel controls working and auto camera on in reverse gear.
Only hiccup was that plugging in the steering wheel controls disabled the built-in volume control until I cut the other two wires on the SWC line (leaving just positive into the SWC jack).
But it all works great now and uses CANbus. Ran the camera cable under trim all the way to the rear and then up through the hinge and rubber grommet (that was the hardest part). Camera is powered by the positive reverse line near the head unit coming off the Crux (the reverse camera cables usually have an extra positive lead in them).
Came out through the reverse light lens and straight to camera. Looks clean, works great.
But I'd strongly recommend in favor of one of the CANbus adaptors for Volvo, it would be much harder without to make all this stuff work as a mere plebe (which I am).

FWIW, a follow up...
I bought a BOYO VT17IRTJ camera and paired it with a Sony XAV-AX500 stereo and it all works just fine. I did need to get a parking brake bypass thing. All bought from Crutchfield. Spliced a line into the reverse lights to power the camera. Took the rest of the wires up front and connected them in. Whenever I put the car in reverse, I see the image from the license plate camera.
