Foundational Education In The Basics Needed For Children

I forget which post it was but in it Matt said critical thinking was gone in the 50's. Thanks to my wife my 7th grader (last year) is on the way to become a critical thinker.

While in the car I said that I unknowingly ate 1 of 7 cookies and later found out from Mom that they were made for the teachers. I said which teacher won't be getting one . After thinking a bit I was told the teacher that won't be there tomorrow when all the other cookies are given out.

After returning home, I told my wife about how clever that was about the timing of gifting the cookies and how clever I was in coming up with the gag  . It turns out my 7th grader was going along with my joke the entire time . I was told that I would never do anything to jeopardize their education.

She surmised:

First, I dare not eat a large homemade cookie without asking knowing it's for gifting purposes.
Second, I always remind the kids to respect their school teachers regardless if they liked them or not so wouldn't eat any of those made for the teachers.
Third, I would never do anything to cause detriment to their educational cause.

I didn't get the last laugh :( .

It’s still alive and well.

We were spoon fed that everything was awesome about our education, which was true if you were white and make and told how you built everything awesome and everyone else sucked.

In my seventh decade now, every time I look into history I find out how distorted my teaching were.

How many Americans know we deposed the democratic leader of Iran in 1953 , installed a puppet, which caused the religious fanaticism which resulted in sep 11? ( Declassified CIA documents in 2000)

Did you know the US produces nearly the same amount of steel that we did in 1967, when we led the world? We didn’t ship our production overseas, they just caught up and passed us.

Most of the dumbing down complaints are rooted in people upset that their version of the world is false and the kids are being taught other views.

I have great hopes for this generation of my kids and following they don’t feel bound by history, given it’s inaccuracies and bend.

One of the things I'm most proud of is that our kids have emerged as very ethical human beings, and very world aware.

And they think about the consequences for generations to come, which I certainly didn’t at their age.

It’s so much easier to wave a flag, proclaim you are awesome, and say we will figure it out , than start making choices of inconvenience to benefit the future.

We’ve got a red mouth breathing county up north who called for EPA disbandment, then found out their drinking water is loaded with PFOA…..” Obama failed us”

Obama wasn’t born when that happened, which is why these problems need adults working on them.
