china import problems due to covid and chip scarcity.
quoting rich Hale Parker,
"You don't need DiCE to use VIDA. Any J2534 interface will work for diagnostic. You can get a J2534 interface for a little as $36.00. "

So something like this will work? I assume you can't use VIDA with it. Some more details would be helpful especially as I keep seeing a growing number of DiCE clones failing. By "diagnostics" do you mean simply reading/erasing codes? Or do generic devices such as the one above allow you to use the activations functions, and change things like DRL, etc. ? Sorry for the questions but I'm googling around and finding barely any Volvo-specific information on the subject.
EDIT: Found this https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forum ... hp?t=96565 ... not much definitive info. I guess it's only supported by MY2004+ and VIDA2014+ installations.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

All cars MY2004+ are required to be J2534 compliant ( Mandated by the US EPA ). Volvo adopted J2534 before 2004. All Volvo cars 1999+ are J2534 compliant. VIDA supports any J2534 hardware. You just need to make sure the J2534 hardware supports the protocols used by Volvo. The Mongoose JRL V160 supports Volvo 1996 - 2014 per Mongoose but it should work on all P1, P2 and P3. The P5 & P6 ( SPA/CMA ) are different.

Hello from England.RickHaleParker wrote: ↑25 Nov 2021, 22:29All cars MY2004+ are required to be J2534 compliant ( Mandated by the US EPA ). Volvo adopted J2534 before 2004. It's the same situation here in the UK, when I last looked on eBay and elsewhere there were lots of units for sale, both VX NANO & Dice clones but now only a couple of very expensive DICE clones.
Do I understand correctly, that a Mongoose JRL V160 should work with VIDA? When I search for 'Mongoose JRL V160' I get conflicting results saying that it never existed, but a 'Mongoose PRO JRL V160' does / did exist, other results suggest that the clones are not JRL but JLR.
I need to diagnose & reset the EOLYS / ADM counter on my '09 1.6D C30.
Please can someone post a link to a Mongoose device that will work with VIDA?
Thanks

JLR = Jaguar Land Rover which used the same low level hardware protocols as Volvo.
Ford owned Jaguar Land Rover ( 1990–2008 ) and Volvo ( 1999–2010 ) The overlap years are 1999–2008.
Jaguar Land Rover is now owned by Tata Motors of India.
Volvo is now owned by Gleely of China.

Well, that explains JLR but what hardware will work with VIDA remains a mystery to me.RickHaleParker wrote: ↑25 Dec 2021, 22:02JLR = Jaguar Land Rover which used the same low level hardware protocols as Volvo.

IIRC Ford also owned Mazda at about that time too.

Found this on eBay today..
The seller is not saying where the kit comes from, so is prob generic Chinese:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203750542661 ... Track=true
Interesting text at the bottom of the listing:
"Volvo can only support DiCE tools manufactured to our standards or those based on J2534-2 requirements."
