98 s70t5 (new single platinum plugs, volvo wires, distrib.c&r)stutters when driving off from a stop.engine doesn't seem to give proper power till it hits 1500 rpm-at that point it becomes normal.
car gets 11mpg city. (i drive efficiently, everyone seems to be getting 16-19, 15 at worst)
what would cause these symtoms?
(different kinds of plugs made no difference)

Plat plugs are not liked by our cars. Change over to the plain Bosch copper or Volvo plugs...gap to 0.028 inches and see what happens.

I have just developed the same prob and all I did was power wash the engine compartment. I got too close to the cap and got water in there so I had to pull the cap and dry it but it ran fine after that. I only noticed it the morning after it had sat all night. Got in, started it up and it had a bad stutter that felt like it went away at higher rpm. Took cap off to check for water but nada?! If you solve this, please post your results. If I find anything on my own, I will do the same. Good luck! Also, I would take MIJ's advice. I found this to be true also. Volvo plugs are the ticket.

if you power washed your engine, chances are some water went into the spark plug holes under the black plastic valve cover. Remove it, pull the cables out and dry all holes very carefully. Also, do not forget to dry the inside of the spark plug wire connectors.

Good Luck

Also, getting water in the rotor/cap will cause the same, so you might check there. The good news is if you just leave it alone, it will dry on its own. So if you choose not to go drying parts under your hood and in a day or two, the same symptoms persist, then it's time to begin looking at the failing parts themselves.

You know, I did have the plastic cover off to clean the oil out from underneath(the PVC? tube was loose so it was leaking), so all the plug opennings were exposed. I'll check that. The car is parked for now while I wait for my radiator, so I am hoping that it was just some condensation that was fouling things up! I'll post results.
