Installed one of the oil cooler coolant lines, as well as the front engine mount yesterday. Today, I buttoned up the top end and got set up for the timing belt installation. I have to epoxy a few breaks in the front cover first.
You don't need to use any special tools to install the upper half of the cylinder head. The bolts (43 of them) are long enough that if you place the cams as close to TDC as the engine will let you, you can tighten them down in sequence and you'll be fine.
What did you do to your Volvo today? Topic is solved

These engine rebuild posts are really helpful as an anatomy lesson in our engines. It looks similar to my 2000 V70, so its helping me get more familiar with the components. For instance, I never knew about the hard coolant line coming off the coolant pump until seeing these pics. Thanks for them.

Most of the turbo and all of it's coolant and oil plumbing.
Lots of, "Oh that's right - THAT'S what that part is!" as I sorted through the pile.

You're welcome. I'm having fun with this engine, but it's good when I can help a fellow car guy in the process.

This is so awsome. Its a real shame you dont have a 3d scanner handy to digitize this work of art.Nevada1906 wrote: ↑19 Sep 2021, 19:31 Most of the turbo and all of it's coolant and oil plumbing.

All of your posts would be valuable all in one place instead of mixed in here. If you're ok with it, could the moderators pull them out into their own thread? It's a valuable collection of visual info, far better than a blurry parts diagram.Nevada1906 wrote: ↑19 Sep 2021, 19:34FireFox31 wrote: ↑19 Sep 2021, 17:16 These engine rebuild posts are really helpful as an anatomy lesson in our engines. This is the car the S60R B5254T engine I'm building is going into.
1995 854 Turbo. 253,000 and change miles on the chassis. I'm pretty sure the head gasket in the B5234T blew somewhere around 230,000 miles, but only became a real smoker around 250,000. Still drove fine though, but Virginia does inspections...

Finished assembling the turbo tonight. If you're going to build it piece-by-piece on the engine, make sure to attach the blowoff valve before you rotate the compressor housing into final position. Otherwise, you won't be able to get to the three bolts.
I used the wastegate actuator to determine the final clocking of the compressor housing.
And with the exception of the second hose on the oil cooler, the hot side is done.
