Bought this 06 xc90 2.5 with a known engine problem, previous owner said it had the message 'Urgent - Oil pressure low' (or a similar message) and the engine appears to be seized. Tried a new battery from another xc70 I have and a breaker bar directly on the crank...No movement at all.
So now I'm wondering if I can simply swap in an engine from my 02 xc70 parts car to the xc90, is this a possibility or should I look for proper replacements? Thanks.
06 XC90 2.5 engine swap...Can I use an XC70 2.4?

The Engine from the XC70 is a RN block. The engine from the XC90 is a RNC block.
You can swap a RNC in place of RN because a RNC engine has the bolt holes for both RN and RNC front engine mounts.
The RN engine does not have the bolt holes for the RNC engine mount, which is mounted higher up.
Start looking for a RNC engine. Easy to spot because the RNC engine have two Auxiliary belts. The RN has only one auxiliary belt.

Thanks for the info Rick, I've actually been looking for a motor.
The weird thing is my go-to, Erie Volvo, actually show xc70's and s60's as replacement engines although they don't show the model year. Do you happen to know if the xc70/s60 actually switched to the RNC-style motor after a certain model year?
Thanks

V70s first got a RNC engine in 2010, 2011 for the S60.

The XC90 didn't have an RNC, the RNC was reserved for the P1 and P3 cars. The XC90 2.5T is an RN just like the rest of the P2 cars.
You can use the 2.5 from the XC90, there are only very minor differences on the 2.5T. You will not use the intake VVT control on the 2.5, as your 2.4T only has exhaust VVT. The intake VVT can just be left disconnected, it won't harm anything. Otherwise, you will just swap over any sensors from your current engine that are any different on the new one and run it.
