RaceBeetle gets a stingy 30-32 mpg depending on how much I spin the Garrett….

I scorched the paint of a Porsche on Route 8 yesterday. Only three places to pass in 17 miles so you need road knowledge as well as HP. He came slow into the curve just before the second pass option, so I dropped into third and spooled the Garrett, and whipped by him with a good 20 mph delta. I heard him tread on it but he had a slusher and just spun oil.

He then Hung on my tail until Colebrook, scowling the whole time, blew by me at Winsted and got caught by CT Smokey speed trap that is there like clockwork.

I waved and went beep beep when I went by !

I had to fabricate a new line from the hub to the caliper because the old fittings were frozen solid to the tubing. Weeks of spraying penetrating oil on the fittings did nothing.

I also successfully installed a new Bosch front O2 sensor.

On the test drive a serious rattle emerged from the rear. Suspecting busted shock mounts.

Check the shock cub bolt under the shock mount. They get loose and sound horrible. Thread here

Thanks, Neil. It's usually a pretty straightforward job...if the shock mount bolts aren't too heavily corroded

I will know by next Saturday.

Good luck with the 240! I have had several and my parents had one for many years as well as 145's. I have a fondness for them as solid dependable cars. Also liked my 940 Turbo which is still one of my all time favourites.

Just don't let Abscate lead you astray!

Firefox for all the pain, I love the car when it is working. Some of the issues are the lack of use especially over the last couple of years. The other one was the groaning suspension that even had the dealer scratching their heads. Eventually found the sub-frame bushes were worn and one was actually loose. Now it runs nice and quiet.

The later models are a challenge in their own ways with expensive 3 stage shocks and troublesome electrics. But when running are great. They are highly strung cars but satisfying when running.

Oooh, have fun with that! 240s are awesome cars. Once I sort out some other projects, I'll get started on mine that's been sitting in the corner of the driveway for the past year plus. Ahead of it is an M50 swap on my E30 and a manual swap on my E39.

You've got something on your head there!

I was thoroughly enjoying it last night with the nice cool, dry fall air! It's incredible the difference in power from mid-60s to the daytime temps in the 80s. The car is just so much more lively. Even sounds more aggressive.

That expensive Beetle didn't know what he was dealing with! They gotta watch out for the Race Beetles.

expensive Beetle
🤣🤣🤣

When I was looking for a convertible back in 2002 I was down to Benz and Volvo for a convertible with rollover protection.

The Volvo dealer kept trying to sell me a c70 slush box, not a stick to be found

For a C70, I'd need HPT manual. No slushbox for me in one of those.

After driving one, I'm not crazy about the overall feel. They're noticeably heavier than the sedan and wagon.
