Replaced the alternator on my 850 last weekend. Man, what a job. Supposed to be super easy, "just undo these bolts" according to the Haynes book. Nope! Tight spaces, hard to reach, but it was done eventually. I was able to do it without touching the oil level dipstick, but managed to get one of the power steering lines in front of the dipstick tube. Oops. Was able to push the tube over to the correct side, near the intake manifolds.

Thanks to Robert DIY's videos on replacing the alternator.

Later this week, I replaced the thermostat on my black S70. Used to have a Biltema thermostat since last years timing belt job, but it has only been a pain. Coolant temperature needle has always been below, wishy washy, and it might be because that Biltema thermostat has a small open hole.
The new Volvo OEM thermostat is bang on, locked at 3'o clock. Feels like she runs better now, sounds better. Also hit 255'555 kilometers. Still have that ABS light on my todo list. Going to have the dealer take a look at it, and see if it is the module, or simply a bad sensor.

If you can't fix it, you don't own it.

hi all well yesterday and this morning was spent replacing the radiator on my 855 volvo the previous one was made in india by bangco and started leaking from the bottom seam after a about 18 months it had a 5 year warranty and the supplier had no bangco one to replace it with so sent me a valeo one all aliuminium that costs about 4retail £211! so its all fitted and tested and working sound now, however the coolant level indicator has never worked,i guess it needs a sensor? but the local volvo dealers no longer list it for my model of 850 but i found this online and hope it is right,it looks the same but is there any way of testing the original? this i think is same, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363494046766 any ideas welcome, cheers all :D

One day the person who wrote “ undo the bolts” as a repair text will need heart surgery and the surgeon will read “use silk to close the incisions in the chest”

Well technically it was yesterday. I decided to return the DIM unit to PnP as it is no good for my car. Didn't bother pulling all the bulbs as I already have a load of them. I was surprised as PnP is usually quieter in the afternoons on the weekend. It was queued out the door and parking lot was almost full. Never seen that before! Maybe warning of possible snow today was the impetus to get out before then! (It did snow today, but thankfully it has not stayed on the ground as still too warm).

I had decided to also see if the same and only S70 was in the yard still. Can't always rely on the web-page as they don't always update daily. I needed a clip for the airbag cable connector that just crumbled when trying to separate it. Fortunately it was and 10 seconds with a pair of wire snips liberated the whole connector to allow careful removal at home.

I had removed the SC-816 radio head unit and ECC controller last week in the hope someone would take them to a good home. Unfortunately they were still there and called out to me to take them home! Got both for under $40 CDN. Will clean them (some marks on knobs of the ECC unit) and put them in the stash for someone else when they need one. I will get the radio code next week and figure out how to remove the CD that was left in the head unit to allow me to get to the laser to clean it.

I hate to see these things being crushed so had to 'rescue' them.

Changed the oil in Blue Steel for the first time in more than two years, noticing that I’d driven it less than 3,000 miles during the pandemic!

It was parked at my parents’ house for much of that time, though.

Yeah, I did that "rescue" thing again today... oops! Dragged home an '08 S40! No crank condition, I'm thinking it may be the ignition switch after some quick poking around on VIDA.
