So my indie called today and said my T5m won't pass the safety inspection because it leaks oil from the block where the main block meets the lower half (that part of the block that needs to be removed if you want to pull the crankshaft).
My guess is that this is a roll on type of gasket as for the cylinder head.
My second guess is that you can't pull that lower part of the block without pulling the engine.
Or has anyone done that successfully?
P.S. the correct lingo for the lower half of the block is intermediate block
Thanks, Clemens

Is the mechanic sure the leak is not just from the "oil squirter covers" on the firewall (left) side of the engine?
I've never heard of a leak from the seam with the intermediate block.

Well, the leak was visible last year as well. But I highly doubt the intermediate block to be the issue.
He decided to let me pass after all because he could not find the problem and I insisted that it does not lwak onto my garage floor. Still, I'd like to find the culprit.
I was thinking turbo oil return line. What are the squirter covers?
That term doesn't mean anything to me.

Turbo oil return line is a good idea, those leak all the time as you know.
I can post more later if needed but e.g.

The turbo return line “gasket” will coat the entire back/ right side of the engine with oil and also look like a seam leak! If it really is a seam leak, there is a Austrian product called Kangaglue which might fix it

Probably something else, turbo return or other line... I have to say the oil leaks are what scare me the most. I have already fixed numerous leaks (cam seal, oil thermostat, turbo feed, return, oil pump was resealed)
And still it is leaking
(most likely from the front cams now - someone had the engine apart and did a shitty job)
My suggestion is to clean and check regularly... only way you can see where it is coming from
I kind of expect that one day I will have to have the engine rebuilt, just to get rid of the leaks. I do not need to add oil, but it is always wet somewhere

Mine looked like it was leaking from there as well, and changing the lower oil return line seal seems to have fixed most of the leak.
You can somewhat see how the oil was coming from the drain and then filling the joint before dropping any lower

So oil squirtwrs are a rhing I never knew existed. Something new from the 90ies, I'd say, because I have never seen them on old V8s or 80ies 4 bangers.erikv11 wrote: ↑12 Oct 2021, 15:53 Turbo oil return line is a good idea, those leak all the time as you know.

Are they located at the exhause side of the motor? I had the intake manifolds off, so I doubt they hide on thst side.
Sorry for the stupid question, but I only found one technical drawing showing the squirter location, but I could not identify from which direction I was looking at the block.

They'e inside the block, and spray up at the bottom of the pistons for cooling.

There are five bolted on plates on the exhaust side of the engine , right side of engine technically, that Allow access to the squirters, which I’ve never seen serviced.
