1995 940 turbo Speedometer???
My speedometer stopped working! Does this model have a speedometer cable that has to be replaced or is it a speedometer sensor???

my 1990 740 has a sensor on the rear diff housing, it was good, the wiring was good. The speedo wasn't.
I bought a used instrument panel off ebay and just swapped the whole lot for $50. Now I have a lot of spare bulbs and instruments.
Its a known volvo fault.

...well, now my wife reports that the speedometer is working again! I did some checking around and my 1995 940 model definitely has the sensor not any speedometer cables! Can't get one at Auto Zone...so it looks like it will have to be purchased off the internet.....I'm definitely not going to the Volvo dealer....he'll want 200 bucks for one, I'm sure! I just have to make sure that that's the problem....and not the cluster itself! Thanks for the help!

I hear the problem is in the IC chip in the speedo head, its made in Japan or Korea. There are places you can send your speedo and they'll fix it.
It can also be the wire harness near the sensor but usually its the speedo itself.

Pull the instrument panel and put a meter on the speedo wires, the voltage should increase with speed.
See the faq file on it.
You could put the rear wheels on stands and run it up, theres a connector near the rear axle you can tap into if you don't want to pull the instrument panel.
To me its easier to pull the panel than jack the car up. A lot easier.
Then either get a replacement on ebay or have it repaired.
