760 Coolant Question

Post by DeRail »

Hi All,

I was checking the fluids in the car today and noticed that the coolant level in the tank on the left side of the engine compartment was below MIN. I didn't notice any coolant light on the dash, nor have I had any problems, so I didn't look into it previously. Obviously, I need to put some more fluid in, but I was wondering if I should just add the fluid or drain the radiator. If so, are there any instructions on how to do it on a 760?
The engine was cold when I checked.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, is that expansion tank supposed to be low when the engine is off? Is there another reservoir somewhere else?

And is there an alternative to the Volvo Type C coolant?
With the warmer weather here, I don't want to take any chances

Sorry for all the questions! :D
thanks a lot!
Darrell

No I think the cooant tank is the only one, be sure to burp the system by squeezing the upper hose after you add coolant, that gets the air out of the system. Squeeze hose til you see the coolant stop dropping ,its good.

Cheers jonesg,

I ended up heading over to the auto parts store and grabbed some Prestone 50/50 (the non Dex stuff) which says that it will mix with any color coolant, no problem. Added some of that since that thing was almost bone dry and I didn't want to risk it. I'll keep an eye on the coolant level throughout this week, I really hope I don't have a leak anywhere :?

Thanks for the help!

Check your oil

and tranny fluid for milkiness.

check back of water pump with a flashlight and look for dried coolant under the pump too.

check hose at bottom of coolant tank, sometimes if the clamp is too tight it cuts that hose.

Make sure fan belt isn't slopping around, it drives the water pump.

Chceck to make sure your sneakers aren't turning green.~!
