Key Fobs...mystery solved

I have seen the question on many different posts here... so many, that I just want to put this out front for all to see. If someone else came to this conclusion already... sorry. It was new to me.

ANSWER #1) PRE '96 THE CAR LEARNS THE REMOTE'S SIGNAL

ANSWER #2) AS LONG AS THE FCC # ON THE KEY FOB IS THE SAME, THE SAME REMOTE CAN BE PROGRAMMED FOR MORE THAN ONE CAR...MAYBE AN INFINITE NUMBER?

I programmed (2) '94 850s with the same remote. With one click, both cars will lock and unlock at the same time if parked next to each other.

Nice info but for some of us this is old news...you can program up to 3 FOBs at once!

True... but lots of people were questioning if the same remote could be used on multiple vehicles etc.

It could happen, but the receiver (in the car) would have to be identical and with the same frequency for this to happen. Actually, the remotes are never programmed (contrary to popular opinion), the car's receiver is what's programmed to the key FOBs.

That's what I thought too....maybe I've got a fluke, but it's nice to only need one remote for both cars! I guess if you had 10 cars, all the same year and model etc, that you could use the same fob for all of them! (Providing the factory fobs all had the same FCC ID #)

Question is...even if the key FOB works, does the actual key start the car? If so, then it's a 1 in several thousands chance but nice if you own both of those cars!
