Hi RickHParker, I'm not sure how this works, where should I look for water when I took the starter out there was oil on top the starter, it was very thin. I only get a click when I try starting it. I need to check my spark plugs right?, I first had to install a different starter bc of that wire, I worked on it all day yesterday, reinstalling my starter, I have light, fan works, everything just no start. My fuel pump is running. I think I may take the day off, but those plugs what do I do exactly? I don't know how the private messaging works and this concerns everyone,I don't know if one can do that without getting into trouble with Matthew, I sure don't want that
. Please like help walk me through this guy's,I'm really at a loss here.oh and they say only 2 bolts to the starter, yeah we all know but two 8 mm on the back on a bracket that in on the manifold, and that bracket played havoc with me yesterday. Just FYI anyone ..

Coming into this late, but it sounds like your dealing with possibly three different problems; the overheating, the starter and maybe a battery.
To check the first, you should pull the passenger side wheel off to gain access to the crank pulley. Use a large wrench, if you don't have a 30mm socket, to turn the crank clockwise with the spark plugs removed. The engine should turn freely. But you won't be able to check your compression till you get the starter to work properly. If you have the starter out of the car, then you can test it using battery cables. With the starter on the floor, connect one of the cables to negative terminal on the starter. When you go to attach the other cable to the positive terminal on the starter, it should kick itself out from under your foot. The starter just spinning isn't enough torque to turn over the engine. And to check the battery either try jumping off another car or have it tested at a parts store. I would think you'd need over 14v to start but someone else with more knowledge can chime in.
Good luck - you'll figure it out.

In short, make sure you have a good battery, then a good starter. After that you can figure out if there is another issue caused by the overheating.
