Does anyone in New England need anything from junkyards between here and western NC? I'm going on a road trip there in a few days, returning mid month. I'll be driving 81 through Harrisburg, PA to avoid the tolls in DE, MD, DC area.
Perhaps there are body panels which match your color or interior parts in good condition down there. Perhaps I could move a part from you to someone else in the South East. Heck, I may even buy that Mercedes tailgate in SC I've been considering for a year even though I plan to sell that car. I'm trying to get more value out of this drive.

That's a really nice offer, but I don't really need anything right now. I am still looking for a hood and trunk lid for my nautic blue S70, but I don't think I can ask you to bring one back for me

Very gracious offer my friend. Nothing on my list at the moment. Are you headed to a particular parts merchant down there? I’ve heard names of numerous Volvo parts recyclers and forgotten all of them.

That's exactly the kind of thing I'm offering to transport: stuff which is too hard to ship. I've got a wagon so could easily fit an S70 trunk lid. I bet a hood would be difficult to fit in the back and I don't have my roof rails installed yet. If you can figure out how to put a hood in a 2000 V70, I can try it.
I could get the parts Mon 11/15/21. Find the parts near Route 84 in MA/CT, Route 78 across NJ/PA, Route 81 between Harrisburg, PA and Kingsport, TN. I may be driving 81 through Scranton, PA and 84 across South NY. Arrange with the yard to choose the part, confirm condition, have them pull the parts ready for pickup, paid by you in advance, so I can grab and go.

Wow, what an incredible offer Mr. Firefox, I was kind of only joking here. I will see if I can locate a trunk lid, a hood is really out of the question since it doesn't fit inside.FireFox31 wrote: ↑05 Nov 2021, 15:59That's exactly the kind of thing I'm offering to transport: stuff which is too hard to ship. And I agree with Scot, it's the kind of people like you who make this site so great.

You all have done so much for me, answering my endless questions, and leaving a trail of good information behind from answering other peoples' questions. I'm just trying to give back a little. Might as well fill my trunk for the 1000 mile drive (one way).

I could drive on 95 between NH and DC but that's an extra $40 in tolls. If anyone finds parts near that route so would like me to go that way, please help me cover some of that toll.

I may be going to Car Guts in Blacksburg, SC for a Mercedes tailgate. Their Google reviews are abysmal, but they sent me pictures of the part. Let me know if you find a part there or in that area.
Thoughts on driving from NH to NC:
Wow, I miss my Mercedes V6. The 5 cylinder V70 had some difficulty maintaining speed up long, gradual inclines hauling a moderate load. This is with new plugs, clean PCV, changed oil, and ensuring that my brake pads and parking brakes aren't dragging. I didn't get to check the airbox flap though.
The dash computer reported an average 28 MPG max in New England but 24-25 MPG in the hills of PA, WV, VA, TN, and NC. 81 in Western VA was a giant hill, dropping me 1 mpg on the way up and gaining it back on the way down. I almost got my goal of 500 miles per tank in New England but only 450 miles in the hills. I really hoped for better mileage.
My driver's seat is significantly uncomfortable. It strains my back during a 20 minute drive, so 20 hours* was unnerving. I swear it's twisted or bent somehow. I'd like to remove the seat and somehow measure it for symmetry, perhaps comparing it to the passenger's side. My other V70 developed the same problem over time. * 20 hours excludes 2 hours of stops but includes 3 hours of sleeping in the car.
