V70 T5 2001 camshaft position sensor

Post by Bruceleemad »

Hi, I have a code ECM 644a. Reckon it to be cam position sensor, but I cannot find it !! V70 T5 2001. Can anyone help. Even my Haynes manual got it wrong !!   I've got the replacement part, but have trawled the internet for hours and still none the wiser !!

It’s hidden behind the engine mount on the RN engine with VVT.

It’s likely not the sensor but a cam flank problem from dirty oil or stretched timing belt

Had a new timing belt 4 months ago, this problem cam up not long after. Could it be that the timing wasn't done correctly ? I will change the camshaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor anyway, as they're not that expensive ( if I can find them ) and then hopefully my surging and rough idle may get sorted. Gut tells me I'll end up replacing the etm though. ☹️

Yep, someone didn’t read the VIDA entry and set the cam up one tooth off. Cam flank angle is tight tolerance on P2s,one tooth off will trip the 644A code
