AIRBAG RECALL first time to dealership ever
Ive booked my 2001 XC70 for a new drivers airbag next week, ive been told by the young female receptionist it will take 2 hours, now i should have asked her but it takes me a few minutes to remove the airbag, are there serial numbers that need to changed on the cars computer?. my car has been re-mapped, will the car go back to stock?..in twenty years of Volvo ownership this is the first time taking a car to the dealership.

Hi Daryl,
I'm in the recall too based on VIN.
I would expect the airbag replacement to just require battery disconnection, and then airbag removal and replacement. I would not expect any system updates to be needed,
However, I was just thinking there are quite a few airbags, both front A columns, steering wheel hub, side of seat. Not sure about head protection for rear passengers. 2 hours seems reasonable to me. Unless only the steering hub one is affected, but why not the others?

I'm also concerned about Volvo's definition of hot/humid climates, which apparently doesn't include Ontario, Canada-- I think Volvo should send a few engineers to Toronto in July so they can sit in traffic in 35C humid weather (with the AC turned off!)!

The spare parts department rang me back asking if my steering wheel was 3 or 4 spoke, apparently the VIN doesnt tell that?
fairly sure its just the drivers airbag. I dont think you could do ALL airbags in 2 hours.
Interestingly there is an AIRBAG sticker should be on the rear wheel arch when you open the rear door. My sticker has a date of 2011 for all airbags....i will ask the dealership about this.

Yes, fairly sure it's just the airbag in the steering wheel. E.g. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forum ... =9&t=98648, there's no way they are doing anything more in 35 minutes.

There was a TSB many years ago that cancelled the “10 year replace date” stickers that came with every Volvo, and considered them lifetime parts.
Back in the1990s airbags were new, and people had to guess the MTTF
