Turn signal bulb replacement

Post by Mr. Detail »

Hello guys;
I feel like this is a dumb question but I just went out to the car expecting it to be easy to change out both sides of the "orange" colored turn signal bulb but nooooo.
The driver's side seemingly has the airbox in the way and the passenger side has the windshield washer fluid reservoir in the way.
Do I have to remove these to get access? From the outside, it looks like the bulb is set at an angle. Any help is much appreciated.

Drivers side is not easy. Passenger side requires removing the neck for the windshield washer bottle. Do you have the owners manual? We have an 06 XC70 and the info on how to change it was in there.

I just saw a video,last night that told of the need to remove the whole front bumper and the headlamp washer motors and then remove the headlamp assemblies to get to the back side of the lamp. Is this the only way? Seems like a lot for just changing out a light bulb.

Can you post pictures of the area where these bulbs are? I have just read the 02 V70 owners manual (link below) and it does not make it sound like a hard job. But then the 06 XC70 says the same!!

I forgot the 02 had the headlight wipers and the headlight units are different to mine (Bi-Xenon and post 2004 on headlights).

On mine to replace the marker lights on the side is impossible and removing the bumper and light bulbs is the way to go.

I will replace all the difficult to access bulbs at the same time as 16 years on originals has been a good run. 2 of 6 are now out.

On my car (as has been pointed out) removing the bumper is not too bad. At least the cover was replaced a couple of years ago hopefully making removal easier. If I recall, loosen the 2 Torx screws on the bumper cover clamps (one each fender well), remove 2 small covers and a couple of 10mm bolts and remove the plastic rivets along the top edge. You have the added fun of removing the headlight wiper arms I believe.

Thanx scot850 but I have to laugh at their description of what to do. There really is no step by step instructions on how to get "access" to those amber colored turn signal bulbs.

I do to! I spoke to the service manager at the new volvo dealer and he says he cringes when they have to swap the bulbs on a P2, especially the small outer marker lights like on our car. There is a 2nd marker light beside the LH headlight. There is a plastic tube behind the access to it. Volvo says to break it off! Why did they fit the tube in the first place?

The question on pictures was to see if there is a difference to the later model or our Bi-Xenon units which have motors behind them and to see if we could suggest any other way of accessing without bumper removal.
