Not in the market for a newer car currently, but I know Volvo sold some late model P3 XC70's with a i5 motor. That would be a reasonable potential car for the future but they are hard to find.

Not a fan of the 3.0 or 3.2 liter motors. The XC60's in the early years had a habit of seizing motors. The 3.2 is a slug of a motor and a gas pig to boot.

Did look at a Gen1 XC90 with the V8 but was scared off by the oil leak issues with those motors. Big jobs that the 'book' requires the engine to be be removed to repair. Valve cover leak can take out the starter motor which is really expensive to replace due to part price.

I did like the test drives I had with the V8, but not the seats. Occasionally a V8 with 'R' design seats comes on the market up here but most seem to be fitted with the cream or beige seats which don't wear well.

If you have one of these cars, hope you enjoy them, but not for me.

Neil.

Only oil leak left to take care of on my mom's V8 is the oil pan. The timing cover/valve cover reseal is certainly a big job, but it's not the end of the world. Fortunately that's probably the worst issue you'll deal with on a later V8. The alternator has the biggest risk of failure due to valve cover leaks, and it's a bit of a pain to replace. I know it'll need that at some point, hopefully not too soon.
I think overall, the worst thing about working on these engines is the brittle wiring harnesses. They don't have much slack to move out of the way while working on various things, and these engines run pretty hot, so they are very brittle. I've broken a ground wire as well as a connector or two due to this issue.

The early V8 Sport (what we have) typically has the black interior with white accents, while the later R Design models have the white with black accents. Both look nice, but obviously the black is easier to keep looking nice. Even so, the white accents are a little dingy.

Not crazy about the headlights and grille, but saffron coupes are pretty rare. That price is pretty high.

"This is a work horse. Not much to look at, with dents and defects, but a reliable ride. I’m only selling it because I now have a company truck. Rare carpenter’s edition 😉 with roof rack and combination square hood ornament.
High mileage, but in a Volvo that’s not very concerning. This has the old cast iron engine which is indestructible and known to run forever. Regularly maintained by Edgecomb’s for the last 15 years.
Price firm (I don’t like haggling, that’s what it’s worth)."

Stanley just might be his name. You can't call him a Square though as he could be a Carpenter  just t(f)ooling around.
