1. I'm at 47k miles. Warranty issue if I change oil/plugs myself? (Extended warranty to 70k through third party)
2. Camber out a touch on one rear wheel. Sears says it can't be adjusted by them. Is this a warranty issue?

Too bad you bought a 3rd party warranty, most are crap.
Sure you can change your plugs, just keep the receipt.
If it's not lowered your cambe should be in spec but these cars are weird, many are still out.
If you give me your rear camber spec I may be able to help you, I have a TON of knowledge on this.
If it's more than -1 on one side, let me know. Up to that you will be OK as will tire wear.
IPD makes and sells a camber bushing for lowered cars that when properly installed has up to one degree of adjustment!
As I said, if it's no more than -.1 just drive it
My (LOWERED) wagon had -1.8 on one side and -1.6 on the other. After a couple of tries with the bushing, I wound up with -0.4 and -0.5 which is about as perfect as you can get.
Each car is different and yes, they were right, the camber (normally) cannot be adjusted.
It's up to you how nuts you want to be on the camber!
Oh and YOU DO NOT LET SEARS TOUCH AN R....EVER
IF THAT'S THE WAY YOU ARE, SELL IT AND BUY A CAMRY
I do not know how long you've owned it but an R is a very finicky beast and worked on by the wrong person can get truly fouled up.
The wrong person is a Sears mechanic, a Walmart mechanic, etc.
You really have to let an R qualified mechanic work on it or you're just asking for real trouble, ( translation, $$$$!).
I may be the only person here who has a new R (much less had two).

Thanks for the frank reply! (':D') I only have my tires mounted at Sears, so don't worry too much. I love my R and want to keep it going a long time. You're right - not new, but I got it when it was only a year old, with 6k miles. I'll trust my car only to qualified mechanics

If you have had it that long and planned to keep it, why didn't you buy a Volvo warranty?
Still, keep it away from Sears. You didn't say just tires, you said ALIGNMENT

Well, when I bought it, it wasn't from a Volvo dealer. I had no experience with Volvo to that point, and none with extended warranties, so bought what they had to offer.
The other thing is a validly split hair... I go to have my tires mounted. They recommend an alignment, and I do it.
I guess I have a lot to learn about the proper care of this car.
