Hey guys. I just recently purchased my first Volvo. Its a 1999 V70 T5 and I am working through the stage 0 items along with some other things.
Admittedly in my almost 30 years of car ownership I have never had an issue with a part like this and normally wouldn't give it a second thought. But I have read a lot of snippets about this being a part that should be replaced as a preventative measure.
In my research I have found the RobertDIY youtube channel and many other great resources. In one of Robert's video he mentions checking the age on the fuel pump relay date and suggest replacing it if it's over 10 years old as a prevention. Mine was actually made in 1999 so I replaced it. Well, the one I ordered from FCP was actually manufactured in 2016. So I am already at a 6 year old part. Granted it is new and never been installed.
Is the advice of replacing them at 10 years based on actual installed and used life span? I cant imagine a part like this "loosing" years of serviceable life from sitting on a shelf. Like any mechanical part, I can see a relay wearing out after decades of use though.
Thanks,
A.W.

Ah, you’ve been caught by the “ bastards”
Fuel pump management changed in 1999 and the relays live longer. I run four 1999s all in original relays

Indeed. Exactly where it went. Plenty of room in there now since I haven't owned it log enough yet to fill it up with the crap that always seems to fill up a glove box over time.
