If we all drove 3 - 5 under the median speed, wouldn't we all end up stopped on the side of the road, eventually ? :)

Lemme see.....lemmee do the math again......hang on.....

I have always been guilty of the 3-5 (to 10) over, to "make time" on the open road. We have generally open roads. Over a 6 or 8 or 10 hour drive, you keep the average up and get there.

But recently I have tried to enjoy the relaxation of sitting in the slow lane at the speed limit, and watch people glide past, look at what they're driving, what they're wearing, their funny dogs....

But man, if there are 600 miles ahead of me, it's hard to just sit there.

Open road I’ll do 70 in the 65 mph speed limit. Once there is traffic, that’s when I slip under the flow on cruise.

Lately I have been thinking while driving how long trips used to be when the speed limit was 55. I did not often exceed the limit and I made many 8, 10, 15 hours drives in those years. In the early 1980s, I had little time off work and would often leave work at 5 PM on Friday (you could not leave early in those days) and drive 8 hours to my parents. Then Sunday afternoon reverse the trip to get back to where I lived.

I see so many whip by at 75-90 mph and then pass them in the rest stop. Slow and steady wins both the race and the safety space

Rolling down i87 on cruise in a Volvo seat is just about as unstressfuk as it gets
