Pipe corrosion, odd bolt, extra bolts ?

Post by Sveedy »

I knew this would happen after 5 months of sitting, waiting, for the engine to get back from the machine shop.
Parts that they took off but left for me to reinstall. No problem, as they did bag everything. Sorta of.

One bolt that has a " rod " shaft that is threaded at the base. Has some sealant residue.

Thermostat housing was in a bag with these 4 other bolts, plus what looks like a bushing of some kind.

And lastly, any recommendations on what I could put on the coolant pipe to prevent corrosion where it connects to the water pump and hoses ? I cleaned it up, but was wondering about anti-seize.

That long stud bolt is unusual. An alignment pin for transmission?
Clean and paint the tube with high temperature aluminum spray paint?

Maybe a zinc rich primer, often referred to as "cold galvanizing" primer, for the pipe?

That bolt looks like a brake caliper pin, to me.... maybe not from a Volvo.

Good idea guys - I'll try painting those ends and call it good.
The bushing looking thing had marks from pliers on it and it seems to fit in both of two holes above where the bell housing bolts up.
But that bolt still has me puzzled...
The other 5 should become evident as I go along. I hope.

Odd bolt is 44 x 7 mm. Any idea how to describe it for a google search ? Step bolt didn't work. Nor did positioning bolt.
Hate to put everything together and find out it's critical.

I think that bolt on top is the one that fastens the lower timing belt splash plate under the crank pulley. If it is, keep it in honor, that bolt is NLA

Are we talking about this piece ? If so, then the rod end protrudes into the timing belt area ?
I do think it has to do with the timing cover somehow.

That’s a tiny bolt on my cars. It’s also a weird one, 6mm thread shank, but a 12 or 13 mm hex socket needed

So I have two small bolts holding that guard on now. Are you saying that one of them needs to be replaced with my " mystery " bolt ? And why does it have that long extension on it that sticks into the belt area ?
