'02 engine and trans in a '99?

Post by KKiwi »

Hey guys, I've got a 99 v70 xc that's got a rough running engine and transmission on its way out and I just found a guy that's willing to sell me the engine and trans out of his wrecked 02 v70. I can't find anything to say if the 02 setup is compatible with what I've got ot not so I figured I'd reach out to you guys to see if you had any info on it?

Is his '02 turbo-charged? Is it an AWD XC as well?

Well, the engines should be close enough, if not the same. You can verify that by looking at the engine number, either on the timing belt cover sticker, or on the stamp on the back of the engine (behind the exhaust cam pulley, right above where the coolant tube goes into the block). The 99 is probably a B5244T or a B5254T and the '02 I'm going to guess is a B5244T3.

Both are LPT RN motors with exhaust VVT, so other than engine mounts they should swap.

The trans is another story. I'm not familiar enough with the differences between the P80 and P2 AWD set-ups to see if there is anything that would cause problems.

Trans is a 4 speed for 5 speed swap, so completely different software and management, doesn’t sound easy
