Shopping for new rims for 2008 S60 2.5T

Post by hu5ker555 »

I still have the OEM 16inch rims, which I believe are called "15 spoke". I have P215/55R16 tires on them, which I think is the widest you can get away with on these rims. Link below.

I'm looking at some 17inch replacements. Just want something different. Any suggestions on where to buy? And are there any particular measurements/specs I need to be aware of?

From the website above, I kind of like the "Orpheus" and the "5 Split Spoke" ones. I assume they are all compatible?
Better places to shop?

If you're not in a hurry and okay with used stuff, I'd scan craigslist for a while and see what comes up. Where I am, full sets of different wheels come up all the time in decent condition.

Volvo uses a 5x108 pattern which is used by a few other vehicle types (I think Ford also uses this pattern), so you can potentially open up your search a little by searching based on the wheel's parameters.

Those would be:
-That 5x108 pattern,
-Bore size (65.1mm I believe for our P2 S60s). You can fit larger bores, not smaller, and to go larger you'd need to add hub-centric rings to your costs.
-Offset (this doesn't have to be an exact match but you should stick close to stock, which I think is ~39mm)
-Diameter/width, which is partly preference and partly limited by the wheel well. Once you approach 7.5-8 inches wide you will need to change your steering stops to prevent rub, which will also limit your turn radius).

That's how I found some 17×8" team dynamics wheels that fit my '06 S60 AWD. Good condition, paid $450, more than happy with them, though I make an embarassing number of 3-point turns now.

Has anyone tried 18" wheels? Will they fit?

Some of the P2’s came with 18’s from the factory - yes, they should fit. Might have a little rub at full lock though. There’s been a lot of wheel talk over the years so should be plenty of old threads to peruse.

I have a couple pictures of 17” Thors next to 18” Atlantis and also the Atlantis’s on my V70 AWD about halfway down on this page: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=78569&p=542985&hilit=Atlantis#top

Matt put up a collection with a good number of the wheels available a while ago. Here is that:

Just ordered some 18x8 customs with 225/40R18 tires. I guess if tire rub becomes an issue, I could always get some spacers. We shall see when they arrive.

FCP sells a spacer set & longer lug bolts. Check your length. When I put spacers on my V70R my lug bolts weren’t quite long enough.

You can get plastic lug covers also. If your current lugs are long enough the covers will conceal the (likely rusty) heads.

If I remember right, there's also a minimum number of rotations that the lug bolts are supposed to go into the threads.. I think 7 is that magic number? I may have to go back into my notes, unless someone else knows. But bottom line, yeah, if you use spacers you're going to want to change the bolts too.

I already mentioned that you can change your steering stops to prevent rub, but what you're looking for is thicker ones (there are different colors that correspond to different thicknesses). I think black is second largest and green (31200948) is the largest.
