What did I do to set off my alarm?

Post by 454cid »

Yesterday, on my way to work, I stopped at the gas station to get coffee. I came back out, unlocked the car, and it would not turn over. My initial thoughts were the battery (it's new), and then the shift-lock/transmission-switch, then the horn started honking and I realized it was the security system.... all while the key was in the ignition switch.

I tried the key in the ignition several times, moved the gear shift (automatic) to make sure it was in park, or neutral, and tried the key in the door. Eventually it started. I don't know what I did to set it off, and I don't know what "fixed" it.

Did I accidentally do something wrong, or is the security system starting to flake out?

I'm pretty certain that I did not, although my father did that with a 68 Mustang back in the 70's.... sat in the car and it just felt off, then noticed his car a couple of spots away.

I set it off again. Somehow I locked the door with it open... not sure if with the FOB or by hitting the lock rod. Apparently locking an open door is a hall mark of theft??? Once I put the key in the ignition, the stupid alarm goes off.
