98 V70 cable release help

Post by stephansvolvo »

I’m not sure if this is the place to post this. I am 2.5 hours from the closest salvage yard, I didn’t have the time to travel this that’s 5 round trip. Im in the SW WA area coast.
I am in need of a hood cable release. New ones are 60.00 which I can really afford either.
My ask, is there anyone with an extra or in close proximity to a pick n pull that could help me out in this?
Please DM me if you can help.

Thank you all!
Stephan

I had a slightly hard time opening that hood for about five years. Required pulling the latch, then trying to lift the hood (free from one side's clip?), pulling the latch again, then lifting it the rest of the way. Maybe it was the snow bank I gently hit, nudging the hood slightly off kilter. Or maybe the cable stretched a bit. Something to be aware of when reusing it.

I had one that stopped working. I sprayed some lube in there at the latch mechanism, and it has worked since.

For what it's worth, the hood cable is probably fine. The issue with having to pull up on the hood is due to the latches, I believe. I added bumpers to mine to eliminate that extra step of the process.

I had this annoying thing too with one of my latches on the S70. I dont think the latch itself gets bad but the wire stretches a bit over time?
Anyway, I loosened the bolts for the latch and pushed it downward as much as I could. There is a little play there to work with. Release mechanism started working again after that.

Yeah, you kind of have to adjust it over time. Between moving the latch downward, and adding bumpers to the existing ones on the hood to put a little more pressure against the latches. It probably is a matter of the cables stretching, now that you mention it.
