Wheel bearing n hub replacement
I recently needed to replace a wheel bearing on an 08 volvo xc 70 wagon n had a hard time finding info on that car specifically so I wanted to help out any future people working on that issue w there car. There are no bolts holding your wheel bearing into the carrier it is a pressed in bearing/hub assembly that you will need to beat the bejesus out of to get it out.you will need to take the whole carrier off car to get it out (or at least I had to) n good luck getting it all back together after..i hope this helps someone out ...good luck n thanks to the Mvs crew for keeping this site going it's been very helpful in the past even though this is my first post

I bought a bearing separator tool from Amazon that was advertised as having the right cups to separate Volvo P3 bearings from the spindle. With the tool, I was able to press the old bearing/hub out of the spindle in one piece while the whole steering knuckle was still on the car, and press the new one in with a reverse procedure. The hard part was getting the new bearing started in perfectly straight. Actually, the hardest part was separating the control arm ball joint from the spindle without killing myself. Using excessive downward force on the control arm while beating the heck out of the spindle is not something I would recommend. Get a ball joint separator tool and proceed cautiously until you hear the ball joint pop loose. Then you will realize you don't need that much force to lever the control arm down and out of the spindle. All of this is just to get the CV Axle out of the wheel bearing so you can use the tool... Because you've gone through all of this work, this is a good time to just go ahead and replace the control arm, the sway bar end link, and take a good long look at the CV boots and the shocks. You don't want to have to do this again anytime soon.
BTW, my original wheel bearing, with 110k miles on it, was perfectly fine. The bearing noise the Volvo specialist and the tire store pointed out to me turned out to be an inner CV joint -- on the opposite side of the car, no less.

Awesome video , I wish I’d seen it before I took it to the mechanic and paid $800 parts+labor($175/hr) to do this job. Previously, I’ve done same job without the press tool and ended up taking it to a machine shop to get the bearing out. This video makes it look so much easier with that plate press tool to remove the bearing with the knuckle still in the car.
