I have an '05 V70R automatic, that when cold has one hard downshift just before stopping. What I mean by hard is that you feel the engine jolt when it downshifts, i guess back into first gear. It mainly does this when the car is cold, but after about 10 minutes of driving it's gone.
This shop I took it to said that it was most likely a software issue and that they would perform a CAN software update. And all they said was, well it may or may not fix it and all we can do is see. Well needless to say, it didn't do anything and $240 later i'm still with the same issue.
Anyone ever hear of this before? Should I worry, or just live with it? Thanks, Jason

Always do drain and fills or flush, whichever you are comfortable with as a first line for shifting issues. Search around as there are many other videos and write ups.

The previous owner may have had a flush, but not done correctly. If not done at Volvo dealer it is possible they used a pressure flush and that can cause issues by loosening caked oil residue into the solenoid valves in the trans. If this what was done it may be a requirement to have the solenoid valves replaced.
Do the suggested oil change in the trans using the multiple dump and fill method as suggested.
Neil.

Here is a more in-depth video on the flushing method. Look for videos so it's applicable to your Volvo. Just use Volvo fluid no Valvoline.

I just wish he did a bit more in-depth on how he got started and how he added the new fluid. Not sure I feel confident enough to try this at home yet. Ugh. But I do think this is a good idea, since I have this new (used) R and should do all that I can to protect it.
