2002 S80 2.4, runs for 2 seconds then dies

Post by GVI »

Hey everyone,

I have a 2002 Volvo S80 2.4 with the B5244S engine and AW 55-50SN transmission (VIN: YV1TS61P921249017). This car has a bad ECU which the previous owner has tampered with and tried to repair. DTC ECM-900E (Engine Control Module Internal Fault).

Symptoms includes no throttle response (even though tested with a good ETM), stalling, and a good crank but no start condition.

According to TJ 7871, it is possible to reuse ECM in P1 and P2 cars. A donor car was located, a 2001 Volvo S60 2.4 (VIN: YV1RS61R112061987). Following TJ 7871, a software download was performed, software part number 8691406 (Erase ECM-Code) to make the ECM “virgin”. The ECM is then moved to the 2002 Volvo S80, where an ECM Reload was performed, software part number 9438288.

Afterwards, the car is able to start, only for two seconds, before stalling. Tested good fuel pressure at the rails. In the two seconds that it ran, it ran perfectly. Smooth idle, and you can rev the engine as well.

When the car stalls, spark is lost, and the injector stops pulsing, as if the ECM is preventing the car from running. A live data report from the CEM (attached in screenshot) shows CEM-VIN-code ok to be “No”.

Does this mean the ECM reload fails to program the “virginized” ECU with the correct immobilizer code? Anyone can shed light on what I could try next?

Thanks in advance!

So far over my head,

but immobilizer prevents any response from the ignition key. Will not crank at all.
So probably not that.

I am under the impression ecm is not transferable.
