Code 141

Post by 5rivers »

After reading up on this code and what might be triggering it, two possibilities seemingly exist. These are a faulty pedal sensor and a faulty oil temp sensor. Of course, there might be other causes…:)
My 1998 V70 non turbo automatic does not have a pedal sensor located on the brake booster….any ideas on where it might be found?
It does, however, have an oil temp sensor!! So, I am thinking of replacing the oil temp sensor in the hopes that the 141 code will disappear.
Trying to prepare the car for an overdue state inspection.
Appreciate any thoughts🤔
Hope you all are doing well ☺️😷

Is that a P0141 code , my upstate friend?

That’s a OXS heater code , usually a fuse or wiring problem

Like abscate says, if it is a P0141 code then:

I have checked the wiring and cleaned the connector but to no avail. And found a tiny hole in the exhaust pipe after the cat and applied some JB Weld to plug it. After driving a few miles, the same code comes up as pending. The first time I did this, code 141 was joined by code 172. Sprayed some brake cleaner around the vacuum hoses and then drove the car a few more miles after clearing the codes. The codes that came up as pending were 141 and code 136. By the time I got home the CEL had lit up! I am not sure how to check the brake booster hose since it disappears under the air filter housing to eliminate that as a possible vacuum leak .
Not sure what to do next. Is the 136 connected to the front O2 sensor?
Appreciate all suggestions!!

One more question, is there a specific fuse for the O2sensors? If so, where might I find it. Have checked the usual fuse locations, but could not find one for these sensors.

Yes there is. Look under the fuse box lid for the right one , pull it out and clean it shiny

I found the fuse, cleaned it so it shines and reinstalled it. After another drive around the neighborhood, codes 141 and 172 come back. Did the same cleaning on the positive cable to the battery, and brushed the two ground straps. Not sure what to try next.

In my latest saga to locate the vacuum leak resulting in a 141code (and likely the 172 code), I had a smoke test done on the car. The very capable mechanic could not find any leaks!
Gosh, I thought what in the world could it be?! I thought back to the times I have filled up the tank, but not entirely full because gas would leak from the tank. So, I emptied the back of the car and removed the floor coverings to get access to the fuel pump. There was some fuel on top of the pump and I thought maybe undoing the plastic ring that keeps the pump secure and reinstalling it might solve problem. But, all was for not. Is there suppose to be a rubber gasket between the pump and the plastic ring that I am missing? If no then I am truly stumped!

I could replace the downstream O2 sensor, but that’s a costly item for me.
Any other suggestions would be really helpful!
