'05 XC70 Electrical Gremlin?

Post by EamonnMR »

The radio started changing channels on its own the other day. The charger/FM emitter just died, and while some stations still seem to come in others have been replaced by what, were I not a fan of experimental electronic music, I would call 'horrible bent circuit noises.'

I'm hoping that the symptoms are just 'blown cheapo cigarette lighter unit' or 'bad radio.' You don't think this would be indicative of deeper electrical problems, right?

If it is the radio, I already have the DIN connector and I had to take apart the faceplate to unstick the shifter because stuff got spilled in it once, so I'd be happy to try and replace the head unit (I'm just stuck on the dizzying array of aftermarket radio options...)

Could it be a possible symptom of you being in there cleaning stuff and maybe something did not get snapped back in correctly on the electrical side?

Neil.

It was months ago, I kinda doubt it, but I'll certainly take a look if it crops up again. It hasn't happened again since I removed the dead cigarette lighter adapter, but it's sporadic enough that I'm not sold on that fix yet (unless that's something people have seen before.)
