Didn't hear anything with my bolts. But I was using torque assembly lubricant on the head bolts.

My opinion is the noises when turning is from the friction in the joint. Thread lube will reduce the friction between the bolt head and cylinder head and the bolt and block threads. This is good. The friction interferes with the proper torque.
You could have used an extension pipe on the last tightening, since it angle of rotation instead of torque measurement. It would ease the load on your muscles and joints.
