Post by davep84 »

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a oil cooler block off plate fron a NA 850 or 70 series to use on my 98 V70. Thanks, David

The chances of somebody here giving up such a rare piece are pretty slim. Your best bet, if you can't do the junkyard crawl in person, is to check with Robert Spinner, posting here as rspi. I know he has some, but he's travelling at the moment. He just took one off a wreck in Portland.
Some time ago I found one on eBay, not cheap but better than buying good hoses.

Thank you for letting me know. I'll check with Robert. Could I just trace the oil cooler thermostat onto a piece of aluminum stock and cut a plate out to size?

I was about to suggest this. IF it is just a flat cover plate, this would be fine. Buy some cork gasket stock and make cover and gasket.

Careful, the stock 'blockoff' plate has machined oil passages, it's not just a flat plate.

Thanks guys. Looks like I need to wait and find the correct plate instead of trying to make one.

I just found the part number for the block off cap it was in the comments section of Robert's video on deleting the oil cooler. It's part 1366780 and gasket 1366791. I just now ordered them from Tasca parts for $44 shipped.

Just remember the bold face warning, sometimes it takes a few days for the process to discover if the number is actually still in the system.
I would counsel taking no action until the part is in hand. I ended up getting one used off eBay a while back, even Robert didn't have one at that time. He just pulled one from a car in Portland recently.

That's a good point. I was just crossing my fingers that it was actually in stock.
