For an 02 V70XC, VIDA says to use Volvo 30741424 which is Pentosin. You can trust Neil that it can use either Pentosin or ATF, that all makes sense. However it is important to not mix them, use only one or the other.

Currently it doesn't have ATF, that would be red. So it either has Pentosin or a mix of Pentosin and whatever else someone put in there. Do you know the service history?

So you have some options:
(1) completely drain the system, flush it out well and refill with your choice one or the other.
(2) assume it currently has Pentosin and top it up with that.
(3) sort of like (2) but you could try to remove as much old fluid as you can and refill with fresh Pentosin, assuming it is currently not ATF in there.

I'd probably do (3), get a bottle or two of Pentosin and use it all up on drain-and-fill approach. Even one bottle of the Prestone would be a pretty good fluid exchange.

You can get actual Pentosin online e.g https://www.ipdusa.com/products/5743/CH ... 424-112998? or you can sometimes find it at the local auto parts store. Pentosin is more expensive than ATF. Pentosin CHF 202 or CHF11 will both work.

The link I gave for Prestone is the Prestone equivalent to Pentosin, that information in is in the fine print on the label of the Preston European PS fluid. If you get this one then make sure it is the proper Prestone European PS, because Prestone makes other PS fluids that are not Pentosin compatible. The Prestone one is a little cheaper and easier to find than actual Pentosin CHF 202 or CHF11. This should work fine if you just want to top it up.
