2006 V70 2.5T Transmission Control Module(TCM) just died
2006 V70 2.5T Transmission Control Module(TCM) just died, and there are none available anywhere in the USA! And who knows when some will be available. So I can find them on eBay, but I'm told I need to get the program from my existing TCM and transfer it onto the used one from eBay. My question is, how to do this? Can any Volvo shop do this? Are there independent people offering this service?

When you say your TCM has died, what has been done to identify it is actually faulty. They seldom go faulty so it may not be the TCM itself. Do you have the trouble codes that were set?
You would have to have the TCM cloned, but not sure if you can do that if it is dead?
Not sure if Xemodex repair TCM's?
Neil.

The V70 transmission is a Volvo Factory Rebuilt Transmission which came from Volvo, installed February, 2021. So its 13 months old, about 15,000 miles on it. Worked perfectly up to now. It started coming out of gear on the highway, and I coasted to an off ramp. Turned off car, waiter 5 minutes, started back up, and could drive again to a parking lot. Info screen read: Transmission Service Required. After 1 hour, I turned on, and again could drive, I got back on highway to get home. After 10 miles, I lose manual control of the gears, like the computer is over-riding me, it stays in 4th, and it starts going in and out of gear. It goes out of gear entirely and I again coast off the highway and miraculously right into a Volvo repair station. They ran diagnostic tests and determine the Trans is mechanically OK, but the TCM is malfunctioning. I don't know the nature of the tests they ran, but that was their conclusion. And this part is not available anywhere in USA.

Coming of out gear while cruising on the highway doesn’t sound like a TCM problem to me. When cruising in 5th you have the forward, direct and 4-5 clutch applied and all but one shift solenoid are off. If the transmission goes into limp mode then all the solenoids are off and you’re still in 5th gear with the same clutches are applied. For the transmission to come out of gear because of a problem with the TCM would mean one of the shift solenoids would be turned on when it shouldn’t be and this would be highly unlikely in my opinion. If anything I could see how a shift solenoid could turn off when it shouldn’t due to a wiring or a solenoid problem but not turn on when it shouldn’t.DavesV70 wrote: ↑01 Apr 2022, 11:43 The V70 transmission is a Volvo Factory Rebuilt Transmission which came from Volvo, installed February, 2021. For the transmission to come out of gear you have to have an internal clutch or mechanical (non recoverable type of problem) or a loss of pressure to one or all of the clutches that are applied and this could be a valve body, main pump or internal pressure leak problem to the clutch or clutches. I just don’t think the TCM is inadvertently changing the state of the solenoids while you're cruising along. As VTL asked, what are the codes from the diagnosis.

I'm not sure if this could be your problem or not, but have you removed the TCM to make sure the connections on its underside are good and clean and making good contact? If it wasn't removed for the "test" then I could see where a bad connection could present itself as a bad TCM. (Same situation with the ECM.)

DavesV70,
Let me try to explain what others have asked for codes.
Your vehicle, like all modern cars, has trouble codes set by the cars computers to help with understanding what is wrong. These codes are read by an electronic code reader connected to a plug under the dash. If you do not have a code reader, you can go to most auto parts stores, like O'Reilly, and they will read your codes for free and tell you the results. Write them down, ALL of them, and then post them here.
It is likely the helpful people here can give you good direction and save you trouble and money.

Did Volvo install the transmission? If they did it should be warranted for life of ownership of the owner when it was fitted.
If Volvo fitted it return it for them to sort.

Guys, he did drop it off to Volvo to sort. If you read his posts above he does imply it was diagnosed at a dealership. He is just looking to source the part that Volvo likely has a supply chain shortage on right now, there are literally no manufactured TCM's for the dealership to procure (likely globally).
My suggestion would be to see if the users on this forum that do remote module transfers (god I forget their nicknames... but they do all of the DIM/CEM transfers remotely) and see if they can do the same for your TCM. Or check with Xemodex or Module Expert. If they verify they can actually do that, then go to car-part.com and try to find a good used one (verify EXACT same p/n as yours) and have them transfer the data from your TCM to the new one. And please report back here if successful so that someone else will be helped during this electronics shortage crisis. Because its likely someone else will find themselves in the same predicament as you.
If you don't want to go through all of that, escalate the issue to Volvo North America and see if they can help you. Going to the media seemed to work for this guy : https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/mobile/ontar ... -1.5739511

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.
