Some pics -
Alfetta GT / Alfetta GTV, depending on the year.
"de Deon" rear suspension - the diff and transmission are the aluminum case attached to the body, so an independent suspension. The black beam is actually a triangle that keep both wheels perpendicular to the road the way a solid axle does. Best of both worlds. The smaller pivoting bars control your lateral movement as it moves up and down. You can see the inboard brake discs that someone has painted red - even less unsprung weight out on the wheels.
I think they were an elegantly shaped thing, designed again by the famous Giugiaro in the mid-70's.
Then they put the Busso V6 in it and called it the GTV6..... it got a hump in the hood to clear the intake.
Somewhere along there the factory was playing around and stuffed the 2.5L Montreal V8 in there and called it the GTV8! With carburetors! They only built a few, I think they wanted to rally them.

Wow, a real La Carrera racer! My old Volvo mechanic Odvar had a V8 Studebaker like this. Did you see the little Ferrari-like badge on the flank with a big "S" ?!

The name Alfetta comes from this car, meaning "little Alfa." The 158 and 159, which won before the war, and then many years after the war. A supercharged 1.5 liter twincam straight 8, which eventually produced 420 hp. That's 92 cubic inches. It featured the de Dion rear suspension.
The wiki tells me -
The Alfa Romeo 158/159, also known as the Alfetta, is a Grand Prix racing car produced by Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo. It is one of the most successful racing cars ever produced- the 158 and its derivative, the 159, took 47 wins from 54 Grands Prix entered. It was originally developed for the pre-World War II voiturette formula (1937) and has a 1.5-litre straight-8 supercharged engine. Following World War II, the car was eligible for the new Formula One introduced in 1947. In the hands of drivers such as Nino Farina, Juan Manuel Fangio and Luigi Fagioli, it dominated the first two seasons of the World Championship of Drivers.

Here's modern F1 driver Kimi Räikkönen driving it at Silverstone before the F1 race.

Ha ! Looks like a life size " Schuco " wind up toy that I had as a child.
That design of rear suspension is something else. Damn. Now I'll be thinking, in the far back of my realistic mind, of a Alfa GTV.
I still have my 289, which just might fit in a basket case ...

I have one of these Schuco wind up toy cars. They are so cool. Turn the the exhaust pipe to change the steering angle. The rubber tires have far exceeded their shelf life.Sveedy wrote: ↑09 Apr 2022, 17:38 Ha ! Looks like a life size " Schuco " wind up toy that I had as a child.
