Sold wife's 2016 Ford XC60 (aka Volvo Edge). Keeping only true Volvo in our family.

P3 XC60 was "bland, without spirit" (c) wife. 6 years of problems, starting with a master brake cylinder went south after 6 months (Volvo.. safety... yeah...).

Until we sign off a check for the replacement behemoth suitable to move our whole family with comfort and confidence, she'll be driving my old 05 XC70, which handles very inspiring :) XC90/V70R sway bars, 3" downpipe, stage 1 tune, perpetual and meticulous stage 0 for everything else, you know... :) Drives, handles and even smells like an old good Volvo. And those seats!..

Also, while enjoying a mild April sun in New England, had the radiators armored cage modified to allow more air (was 62%, now like 90%).

Pardon my ugly seams - a newbie was stick welding 14 GA SS304 sheets...

Dings are from 370/390 FPS crossbow bolts :)

Also welded a couple of angle brackets onto the cage for the offroad CREE led fog lights that will replace weak, dull and always broken OE lights. Prototyped a bread board with LDD-700H (constant current chip) and a relay. The idea is to limit the current by 0.7A for the "civil" mode, so it won't blind the ingress traffic, and make it possible to unleash the hell when driving off the grid. The hell draws around 3 Amps per light. Maybe more, my lab power supply caps at 3A.

I have the original Volvo aux.light kit installed (bracket on the front bumper) with a pair of Black Oacks flood pods, and I hate that the lights protrude far beyond the bumper. These new flood lights are less powerful (1 CREE led vs 4 in B.O.), but they will be completely hidden. Also the bumper removal is PIA with OE kit, while my fog lights mod would not restrict anything.

Is there a write-up of that radiator cage? I’ve thought about some kind of grid in that lower bumper hole - rad seems pretty vulnerable.

For the lower bumper opening you don't need the whole cage. Get some diamond-shaped expanded metal mesh at Home Depot, you need ~2.5 feet long sheet. It can be cheap aka mild steel - I have one like that, and it does not have any rust after a few years of enthusiastic use. Of course, had it first degreased, primed with 99% zinc, twice, and then spray painted, also twice. Attached to the bumper with zip ties.

It has some great dents from rocks and roots, which means it works.

Try to avoid restricting air flow too much, i.e. don't go too small for the cell size. Our engine compartments are sort of hot already.

I received the new left rear upper tail light lens today and installed enough to check all bulbs. I found the battery was near dead and got out the new Optima charger. I told me the battery was at 11 volts. One thing leads to another.
The new lens is very shiny.

I nearly broke my leg today working the the XC70 rear hatch struts! Had oil leaking from upper trim above rear windows and hatch wouldn't stay up this past winter.

Like an idiot, I removed a strut without propping up the hatch and it came down full force on my hip! Felt the pain down to my toes! So dumb....please prop up your rear hatch when working on the struts. They'll give no warning and come smashing down in a flash.

Replaced front brake hoses. RHS was going on but not fully coming off. Rubber had collapsed inside effectively making a perfect one way valve. I had nabbed a hydraulic block from Pick a Part just in case. But a quick blow through revealed the issue.
Side note - Brake fluid is not as tasty as it looks
I also snapped off a bleed nipple on the rear outer (VR) and snapped an extractor off trying to get the remnants out. I may just take it to a brake place that removes broken nipples ten times a day, rather than causing more headaches for myself …
But a result never the less.
