This worked for me. Cleaning the throttle got rid of a recurring P0101 error.
I wanted to add, I did have to go back to the original MAF sensor to completely get rid of the errors. The replacement MAF sensor would cause errors every few hundred miles even though it seemed identical to the original one.

I had loping when idle on my 04 Volvo XC70 with 173k miles. It wasn't very serious like in viewtopic.php?f=9&t=97408. No RPM change nor engine codes, but it was enough to annoy tf out of me. Would notice it most whenever I stop at traffic lights. It had some hesitation as well.
I cleaned the throttle body up WITHOUT removing it. I didn't have a gasket so I thought let me try cleaning it in place. Most useful tool was a mirror that I put underneath it to help me with spraying. Worked like magic! It was so dark in color from carbon deposits from the inside before spraying the cleaner. It became so clean after spraying. I then shoved a wrench wrapped with a piece of cloth into it so I get to clean the other side of the flap.
After starting my car, the loping was GONE! Worked like magic! It's been annoying me for years, wish I had done this earlier.

So im trying this on my 04 xc90. Got it out pretty easy. Have a new gasket from dealer. Do I need to put any type of gasket seal so it holds the gasket In place when I re install the throttle body? Does it matter which way the gasket goes on?
Hi guys, I registered just to give a thumbs up for this post! Helped me too.
Had a lot of issues with 2.5T after putting it on LPG.
Fuel correction was off (lean mixture fault P2177). Long fuel trim was jumping from -15 to +15% and also P0101 & P0100 MAF Sensor flow error.
Lean issue was fixed with new LPG injectors and O2 sensor (O2 sensor might not be needed, but still car runs better with new one, I chose DELPHI O2 and so far it works well as replacement) .
MAF sensor issue was fixed with just cleaning the throttle body. Btw I would consider my throttle body quite clean after 150k km (dunno how much is that in miles, somewhere around 100k). Anyway, couldn't see thought it. After cleaning - no problems with starting, jumping RPM's or anything else. Right afterwards felt like engine is more responsive and picks up better on acceleration, doesn't "think" so long.
P.S. Does clean throttle means that engine ventilation is working or not?

Hey!! So I'll try to make this quick. We have had our 2004 xc90 for 3 years now with around 160k miles. Love the car. The other morning husband started vehicle and let it warm up, jumped in and headed to had station. Turned it off. Went inside and when he came back out and started it it had a rough idle and pedal to the floor would barely move. He got him and ran diagnostic on it and the only code was p2111 "throttle actuater stuck open". We let it sit for a few hours and started it up again and it ran normal but after driving it a few miles and then shutting off and restarting it 5 to 10 minutes later issue returned. My question is does this sound like it could just be that the throttle needs a good clean? I'm not super savvy with vehicles but I'd assume since its only one code it has to do with just the throttle. Correct me if I am wrong please. Before we go and spend a fortune for a new vehicle I'd love to try and fix our volvo.
Side note! I'm not sure this is a new thing everything but I called a reputable shop out here and a Volvo dealer and BOTH informed me they are no longer working on vehicles older then 2012!

It could definitely be a dirty throttle body or the throttle actuator (body) itself. If you and/or your husband are handy, you could try removing and cleaning the throttle body first. The only price in parts is the gasket and carb cleaner. I was able to remove the throttle body without removing the intake manifold. If you go this route, put a piece of cardboard underneath the intake manifold/over the starter as the starter has hot power to it. You don't want to drop a wrench and it arcing.
If you are not mechanically inclined, you could buy the gasket and ask an independent shop to try cleaning the throttle body. Ensure you note they try to avoid carb cleaner from dripping into the actuator mechanism.
If the cleaning doesn't work, then you might have to purchase a new/used throttle actuator. I have taken electronic throttle bodies apart before because, over time and miles, the internal grease tends to dry up and prevent proper actuation. The old grease can make the throttle opening/closing slow, and the dried grease will gunk up brushes & contact points. Grime both externally and internally can affect throttle actuation.
Sounds like heat is an issue with expansion and that's where cleaning (externally) might help if the throttle body plate is expanding and getting bound up on intake grime.
