My fleet, real mpg

Bavarian money waster e83, getting 18 mpg, but driven 50 miles a week to work only
VW T4 20mpg but used for boat hauling, camping, hsuling , only 5000 per year

T5 Elizabeth and soon to be Kat s70 awd return 25-27 mpg

My stars

Evita s70 NA, Shaggkira v70 NA return 25-30 mpg

Juliette the RaceBeetle and Catherine the p2 NA return 30-33 mpg

Full disclosure: I also have a 1977 Ford F350 pickup with 470 CI, C6 auto transmission, and 4 BBL carburetor. When I drive short trips, which is almost always, it may get 6 MPG.
However, it has 10 foot bed with the tailgate down and will haul 2 tons with attached trailer.
Useful and practical when it is needed. Recently, maybe 50-100 miles per year.

One could argue that gallons per year matter more than miles per gallon.

Right now I am working from home more often than not and I am driving about 5,000 miles per year
(and still changing my oil every six months)

If I take it easy in the AUDI 2.0T Cabriolet I can get 23 MPG on what our friends in the UK would call A roads and B roads and not Motorways. To bring it a little closer to where I am from it would be more like RTE 9 than Freeway 87 (Albany County New York......Technically its upstate but you would never hear me say that because geographically it is slightly closer to NYC than it is to the Canadian Border, shouldn't that be mid state?)

5,000 miles @ 23 MPG = 217 gallons per year or 4 Gallons per week

At estimated current California premium fuel price of $6.00, your weekly fuel cost is $24. Not bad in my view.

I think that's a good point. I've thought about that for a while. You could drive your 45mpg Prius 50,000 miles a year and what is the total gas you burn in a year? The family with 6 kids and an old 12mpg Suburban, who only use it when they have to haul kids to soccer, burns how many gallons of gas per year?

Or just use your Segway for 33% of short trips and measure the change.
