P80 Door limit strap question?

Post by scot850 »

Are RH and LH door limit straps interchangeable? If you look at the strap part it has FL on one side and FR on the other. However, there are 2 different part numbers. The rears are also a different part number but appears to work for LH and RH.

Thanks,

Neil.

According to FCP Euro, they state:

"This door check fits both left and right side doors on all Volvo 850 and C70 models; BUT this only fits the right door on Volvo V70 and S70 Models."

ipd+ shows different parts for right & left. Probably doesn't help you. Sorry.

PS : This video or Robert's says they are for both. You just flip them over.

Not sure why these don't fit both sides at the front when the rears do? I think I said that they are different in terms of the spring used. The Spring is offset I think to the bottom on the hinges on each side. As to why they would fit an 850 and not a V/S70 as the doors are similar I don't know short of having them side-by-side. I did notice the one remaining hinge I have only says FR on one side and nothing on the other. Can not recall if the one I fitted to the car was stamped on both sides or not.

I just looked at Robert's video again and he is working on an 850. The hinge he pulls has the spring hanging evenly to the top and bottom. That looks like a larger version of the rears which are interchangeable. Not sure why they were changed for the V/S70. With the offset spring it makes it hard to fit into the door aperture, so maybe you just can't fit it to the opposite side?

One of life's many mysteries!

Neil.

I have only done the drivers door so not sure. I don't remember if it was stamped.
