Got the engine as far as I could with the hoist (with a short chain to avoid smashing into the tailgate glass  ) and then I was able to slide it on the plywood without too much effort

Fun fact: I've owned my '96 855 since 2006 and have never changed the brake pads. Every time I check them there is still at least 50% life. I will only buy oem when I eventually change them.

Wow! My 99% highway driven T5 went about 5-6 years between pads; 16 years is crazy!

1. You don’t ever drive it.
2. You never slow down.
3. The brakes don’t actually work and you haven’t noticed.
4. You installed the solid titanium pads.
5. Other options??

I have 3 vehicles I rotate so some weeks I drive the wagon rice and like this week it's every day. The odometer was broke at 115k when purchased. I fixed it a couple years ago and corrected the mileage after reading from cluster and now sits at 213k today. So maybe I've put 60 to 70k miles in that time. There was a 3 period when I was attending grad school and did not have the car with me. The rotor have plenty of meat so I have no idea. I'm sure the rear pads are nonexistent. I still have plenty of of braking power on my 25 min daily commute. I really want to do a full suspension refresh and change out the brake pads and rotors at the same time. But that costs money.

That money thing really is a pain! :D

I am holding off on any other repairs to our cars as I may have a pending $4000 US repair coming up on the Toyota. The repairs on this vehicle are multiplying in price and frequency. I am planning to replace the OE (which means cracked) exhaust headers for stainless tube headers which claim an extra 35 bhp and a 3-4 mpg highway improvement. For that price it had better, that is assuming the manufacturer can get materials to make them!

I bought a 01 Suburban with 50,000 miles on it. The dealer said next service I would need pads. I ran the car for 5 years and a further 40,000 miles before replacing the brakes. They were still working fine!

Yup, that sounds like a 2UZ to me! My '04 Sequoia had a small exhaust leak from the headers too, but it wasn't enough to bother me. Doesn't look like a fun job! That's probably the ONLY thing on those engines that isn't easy to access.
