I've been thinking a lot about my "spur of the moment" purchase I made of my S60. I really like the car. I like 4 door sedans. I like the fun spirited drive I get driving through the country. It's comfortable. I feel safe in it. I like the power, and the sound, of the 5 cylinder. However, I kind of wish I would've spent more time learning about Volvo's different models before buying rather than after.
There's not much leg room in the back for passengers. I'm about 5'6", and even with my seat set at a comfortable position there's hardly any rear leg room. No real way of fixing that.
Lately I've been seeing some of the older models that are RWD making tons of power with only 8 valve B230 4 cylinders. Makes me want to step back in time and go for an older model, like a 940 sedan (assuming it has more leg room).
Not as smooth as the 5 cylinder, or as cool sounding, but the B230 seems a lot easier to work on than the modular 4 valve per cylinder engines. Less parts. Seem to be a stronger engine, but I could be wrong.
I don't need tons of power to enjoy a nice cruise, but there's nothing like the feeling of jumping into the throttle and having the rear end kick sideways in a nice controllable manor (assuming the suspension is setup properly). I've had older muscle cars just for that reason, with between 400 and 650hp. (Seems to be enough power for me to have fun and still feel safe.)
If you were able to go back in time, would you buy a different Volvo model or would you keep the one you already have?
Would you buy the same Volvo you have now or a different model?

The only change I would make with Magic Wand of RegretFixing on my 1999 V70 T5 M56 would be a change from 417 Nautic Blue to 421 Green, but such yearning is truly incremental
I would not back any model that would make me give up the P80 seat
The solution to any change your desire , of course, is just buy another one…

There's so many beautiful Volvo models that have been made. I love driving my 01 S60. It's got enough power to get me moving, but not so much that it gets me into trouble. I'd like more low end torque, but I don't think the automatic trans axle would handle it. I don't know if my knees will let me drive with three pedals. A nice strong mechanical clutch would help me build up more leg strength, and would be a lot more fun with rwd, but I don't think it'll happen. At least not with the S60 I have.
Those round headlight wagons are a work of art. The B230 engine is a nice engine, from what I've read/heard/seen, and has a beautiful sound when matched up to the right turbo. A solid 4 speed manual transmission behind it, feeding the power to a live axle. The simplistic interior, with manual everything. Absolute perfection. A nice wide body kit, with wide hips... (I'm getting carried away now, too far into Dreamland. I better stop now before I write a whole romantic novella based around a Volvo lol. It would be easy to do.)
