Although I am careful I have had instances of the wood breaking and slipping. Only time I use a piece of 1/2" is when carefully jacking the oil pan to check or replace the crank pulley motor mount.

I have thick rubber pads bought at Princess Auto up here that swap in place of my regular floor jack metal castellated lift pad.
I use hockey pucks on my floor jacks as a spacer to avoid the metal-to-metal contact.

I’ve got one of the earlier runs of the cars, which had removable ball joints. A ‘93. Considered by some to be a handicap to own, considered by me, an advantage. Minor differences all around but I honestly prefer most to the latter inceptions. But I love ‘em all :P
Oh ok, I am not familiar with the variations. It seems like many on the forum are later cars.

Checked my air pressure in my tires. I adjusted them last week, I think. They were a bit high today, I suppose the air temp has gone up a bit since then. I had put them at 36psi last week, but found anywhere from 36.5psi, to 38psi. They're new Michelins and I want to keep them in good shape, and get the best fuel mileage I can, since I drive 100 miles a day.

Replaced distributor cap and rotor, did plug wires several weeks ago. Can't remember when the cap and rotor were replaced and have noticed breakup in wet conditions under heavy boost.

Yup, the early 850s have replaceable ball joints. One of then many quirks of the ‘93!

As for floor jacks, I have the Daytona 3 ton long reach low profile jack from HF and it’s fantastic. Really well made jack, far better than any older one I’ve used.

I had a 93 with the aluminum front control arms and replaceable ball joints. I then found a second set at PnP several years ago. A local Volvo enthusiast really wanted the aluminum control arms for his car so off they went!

I need to replace the ball joints on the XC90. Last time was a pain, I'm sure this time won't be any different. Not looking forward to it...

Mostly yesterday I worked on the 98 V70 belonging to my friend (yet again!). Blasted door check strap was clunking/groaning again after a week, and the interior door opening handle had it's return spring fracture in 2.

The there were the added requests of can you do anything about the broken cup holder and console armrest.

I'd looked at this previously but parts are hard to find. There is exactly one 96 850 in one yard and a 97 in the other with an 00 S70.

As there was a 50% off special this weekend I went to look at door actuators (I realised all mine are rears), that interior door handle, the LH front check strap and a cup holder. Got there to find all handles, actuators, center console armrest had all gone. In fact the local idiot (don't let me ever find out who you are!!) had been in there and what they could not figure out they destroyed trying to figure it out and that really pisses me off!

I found the 97 had a 98- console arm rest in it with a mostly good cup holder. Went back to the 00 S70 and re-looked at the console. The idiot had tried to remove the wooden top insert and had not removed the 2 front screws under the ashtray and ripped the whole top off. Fortunately the remainder of the console including the hinge for the arm rest was still there. Wrong color, but hey, have to work with what you have.

Phoned my buddy to see if he had an interior door handle and he did. He dropped it off and I found it was one I had given him!! It was even the light beige color I needed!

Car was dropped off and had a look at the check strap as it has been a total pain for some reason. Last time the Torx screw had come loose. Nope it was tight after I red permatexed it and cranked it home. I hoped it was not the mount that had cracked. Nope this time the 2 x 10mm nuts on the door had both come loose?? I have re-tightened them with thread locker too so hopefully it is now good. Just in case I have ordered a new LHF one for my stash for emergencies!

Door handle swapped over in about 10 minutes the on to the console.

On removing the console, I found not only was the rear section broken out at the hinge are but the hinge itself was broken!! How in the heck do you do that. My plan had been to repair it but that was not going to be possible, so I cleaned and installed the gray PnP unit after transferring over the original wiring harness and top section.

Finally I had the original and 2 partial cup holder assemblies and managed to make a correct colored one out of them so with the console back in the arm rest could be put back in. Of course I didn't think to check all the bulbs and the 2 12V outlet bulbs are out, as is the shifter position bulb and the bulb for the front ashtray.....................! Ho, hum.....................!! :(

It just never ends! Roll on the crank mount next weekend...........!
