They aren’t Volvo without any QC labeling on the potted top

Parts Geek will give you about 12 options. The cheapest I would consider are Denso at $35 each

Those are definitely aftermarket. Probably the typical parts store variety PRC-made coils. They're usually fine, I have 2 or 3 in my V70R currently.
Delphi coils are good, but the best option for these cars is Bosch.

I just can't imagine why anyone would replace all 5 coils on a car with less than 85000 miles.

I think people just feel better replacing all of them if it needs one. Or if they're just unleashing the parts cannon. I only replace coils when they fail unless there are drivability issues. Then it could make sense to replace all of them.

I think MTBF on these coils is something like 150k miles, i did have a new Bosch one fail at 100k

If you run 5 cars with the same coils you can put new ones in the PReventative maintenance (2/5) cars and use the spares inthe 3/5 run-to-failure cars. Don’t forget to FreeCP the failed ones

The Kat has 23yearold 1998 OE coils with 140k on them. Might be a cool experiment to run them to fail

Those of us driving Olde Iron usually travel with a small box of spares and a decent tool kit. My '69 1800S was shown no mercy, I put 500k on that poor car, and it never left me walking. I miss it.
