Another V/S/C 70 bulb source required -Auto trans

Post by scot850 »

Hi guys,

Have now with your help identified the bulbs in the center console for the 12V outlet illumination and how to swap them. Today I even found I have a whole bunch of these in a box!

Now I need help identifying the one for the Auto trans position illumination.

It looks similar to the one for the 12V outlets but has x2 flying leads that solder to the connectors on the light assembly.

The bulb looks like this but with the 2 leads coming out from the base. I have placed it beside the 12V outlet bulbs for scale:

The bulb needed is the upper one in the picture above. It should have x 2 leads coming out of the base of the bulb. The other one is a Sylvania 2721 for the 12V outlet illumination

Thanks,

Neil.

So checked the bulb for the ashtray illumination and it looks like the bulb part is the same as the auto trans illuminating bulb/

What I do not know is what type of bulb is it?

If the bulbs (2721) for the 12V outlets are 12V 1.2W and they are similar in size and style but with leads to allow then to be soldered to the carrier, where would you find something like that? I have found an LED style bulb that looks similar although it is rated at 12V and 0.04A. Can I use that instead or will it just blow?

Well so far having no luck sourcing this bulb. My usual source (Mouser Electronics) say they do not have a suitable candidate. So still looking for a T5 wedge type bulb with 2 flying leads about 2cm long. I would suggest they have the same output as the T5 bulbs in the 12V outlets in the center console. 12V 1.2W. Any suggestions where else to try?

Thanks,

Neil.

Here is a great write-up about bulb replacements. I found it the other day when I was trying to figure out which 14 bulbs I needed for the rear of my S60 (excluding the license plate lights, which I didn't replace).

Thank you. I already have the part numbers, for the 2 bulbs I need, but being a cheap Scotsman, I refuse to pay Volvo $15 and $30 for the 2 bulbs. What I am trying to find is the actual bulb replacement and not the whole holder which s why they charge so much. To solder 2 small leads to replace the old bulb is fairly easy so if I can find just the bulb with a 2cm or 3/4" or so leads then I can post this for the future for others, especially a more parts become NLA.

Appreciate your help all the same!
