2002 V70 Passenger door

Post by tigger8872 »

Hi Guys,
Can anyone help me? My volvo V70 has developed a problem with its front passenger door. Non of the electrics work and the dash message is telling me that the door is open even though its closed. Also cannot lock the doors. Fuses checked and ok. Are there any relay modules for this door?
Thanks :(

Welcome to MVS.
There is no relay and unlike the earlier 850's and first generation 70 series cars, there is no circular connector in the door jam area. However, you will see the rubber part that is full of wires that connects through the door jam to the front of the car...the back section that actually connects to the door comes apart and is a connector. The diagrams show that it will pull apart but it's unclear if it pulls apart inside of the door (under the panel) of if you can pull it apart without taking the panel off. Anyway, see if you can get it apart without taking the panel off. If that's not possible, then it isn't that difficult to take the door panel off. Remove the triangular piece that covers the side mirror housing by pulling it straight out...Then with the door open, push the little peg inside of the round clips that outline the door and when all are unclasped, gently pull the entire door panel up and out...there will be a few electrical connectors that will keep you from pulling it free, so be aware of this...they can be unclasped and the door panel pulled free. Installation is in reverse order. Once the panel is off, you'll see where the different connectors are... The one you're concerned with is the frontmost one. Pull the connector apart and inspect it. Clean both sides of it with CLR electrical cleaner (any auto parts store) and then push the connector on and off several times to further help cleaning between the 2 connector pieces. Without putting the panel back on see if things are restored. If wiring connectors (or wires inside of the door) aren't problematic, then you might be in for a trip to the dealer. I suppose the worst thing that could have happened is that the central computer has stopped recognizing that door and is in need of a software download to once again recognize it.

Btw, since yours is a '02 V70, I've moved this thread to the appropriate section of the forum.
