Trying to think why it would be different. Yes you go from the 32/36mm nut on a thread for the axle to the threaded center axle bolt and washer, but can't think why they would otherwise be different. You also get the 4 bolt and 2 bolt lower control arms but would that make them different?

Hm??

Shifters are 1999 and 2000 only parts. If you let a 1999 shifter get into the 1st gear position the TCU freaks out.

TCU are not pinned to VIN

viewtopic.php?t=101504
Figured out the problem. It was having the right combo of parts in the car to make everything happy.

1st off, the 99 & 00 shifters are 100% different, only part shared between them is the shift cable. The shifter is different, and the shifter arm on the trans is different. The TCU is the same, but with a different shift program. Shifter is gated differently. 99 has 6 positions on shifter (P,R,N,D,3,L) and a long selector shaft lever on the transmission. 2000 shifter has 7 positions (P,R,N,4,3,2,1) with a short selector shaft arm.

99 TCU freaks out if the selector shaft on the transmission ever finds its way into the 1st gear position. It was never meant to be manually shifted any lower than 2nd gear.

I was under the impression that the ECU & TCU were married via vin#, but now I’m certain that this car doesn’t care what TCU it has in it. Installing the 2000 TCU cured all my problems. Everything works as it should now. I can manually shift all 4 gears now without any codes, or trans going into limp mode.

I had to match the TCU with the appropriate length selector shaft arm to keep everything happy. I didn’t absolutely NEED to change out the actual shifter in the car, but the 00 shifter has the right amount of notches in the gate.

I have no more p1618, 1633, or 0705 codes.

Big one.

The fuel pressure regulator is moved to the back of the car, right rear wheel on FWD and on top of tank for AWD

The dump for excess pressure goes back to the pump in FWd and is used for siphon saddle tank pumping on Awd

The vacuum for the FPR is a tee of the evap purge line vacuum line. No one has figured out how Volvo uses that signal to regulate fuel pressure in real time

Update! With motronic 4.4 the engine management is clocked fast enough that injection time mitigates manifold pressure. Variation. This happened with NA motors in 1998, and means the fuel pressure is now just regulated to the 42 psi relative to atmospheric, Volvo uses fuel tank pressure as reference.

In 1999 ME7 was even faster and this applied to turbo models , too

That is a classic example of hose embrittlement failure.

I will now say the 'bastards' are the -98 cars, not the other way around. I noticed yesterday at the junkyard that the 850 there had what looked like a recent Bosch rebuild alternator. I had all the service info from that car with the owners manual I took from it. I recalled that the alternator was a recent fitment with little mileage since install. Naturally it was too late yesterday to remove it and I did not have the correct tools for it.

Today, I went back! It took only about 15 minutes to get the stuff out the way I needed for access. Then all the bolts came out (including those 3 x PITA 12mm bolts hidden by the power steering pump pulley. Maybe 10 minutes to get that out the way and then onto removing the alternator bolts. I watched a YouTube video yesterday made by some gorilla. The one major part he skipped on was removing and access to the 'hidden bolt' below the alternator at the back. To access it you need baby hands and arms to get by the AC pipe and the intake. Forget about seeing what you are doing, especially in low sun conditions. You can either see what you are doing or swing a wrench but not both at the same time. That spawn of a devil bolt took about 45 minutes to get out and before I realized the bolt threaded into the front accessory mounting plate and was loose. :x

Best part is it doesn't even fit my car, but is going into the PIF pile for -98 car owners, either for use on their cars or selling to raise general funds for PIF parts.

All this was done on wet melting ice on a slope by an old fat guy!

Give me a 99-00 S/V70 alternator swap any time!!
