Engine removal on volvo t5

Post by Vladimir24 »

Hello guys! I want to pull my old engine from my volvo 850. Engine is ready to go out exept one bolt conecting it to transmision. It is extremly hard to get to it and bolt is worn. I got it maybe half way out but it will not move more. What can I do? I really don't want to pull transmision out  It is bolt on the bottom front side of engine.
Thanks for help

Hi Vladimir and welcome!

Are you supporting both the engine and transmission while trying to remove the last bolt? If not, then all the weight of the engine and the transmission are on that bolt and it will make it jam. You will need to relieve the pressure on the bolt and then it should be easier to remove.

Worst case, you may have to put a couple of the other bolts back in to have a chance to get that stuck bolt out. Then make sure both the engine and transmission are supported then take the last 2 bolts out.

Hello Neil.
I tried to put engine mounts back in place but still no luck. I have to get one more jack to support engine and transmission but my equipment is veeery limited.
Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day

Get a load balancer and lift it out as one package.

Try using blocks of wood under the engine and if you have a jack, put it under the transmission with a piece of wood between it and the transmission and you can then adjust the pressure on the transmission to remove the stress on the bolt to get it loose.
