2005 XC70 - Can't get larger seat to unlock to put it down

Post by cresley »

The larger of the 2 seats directly behind the front seats, won't unlock to go down. How can I get it to go down and what might that cost me?

My 2003 occasionally does that. One day it works smoothly and the next day it acts obstinate. Try shaking the seat back fore and aft as you are trying to unlatch the latch.

You can peel back the leather a bit to expose behind the latch and wedge a flat screwdriver in there to help it open. I had to do that on the car I took my third seat from.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

If you have the retractable dog nets on the back of the seat, you can just flip it open and blast the interior latch area with penetrating lube. Had same problem on both sides and the lube job got 'em operating nice and smooth.
